Final Fantasy IX (Steam Port) Rating by Logan Martin Overall Score: 9.8/10 Rating: Must Play Note: This was for my first playthrough of FFIX in 2020. I have finished FFX, FFX-2, FFXII, FFXIII, FFXIII-2, FFXIII-3, FFXV, and about half of FFVI. Graphics You forget what reality is - These are 15 year old graphics, but from what I understand, these were state of the art at the time. Although I never really "grew up" with 2-dimensional backgrounds, after my childhood, the graphics were unique and seemed exceptional many times. Beautiful Good Decent Bad Don‘t look too long at it Paint.exe Gameplay Very good - Classic turn based combat and a world-spanning adventure on foot, sea, and air. You can freely switch between 8 characters out of battle for most of the game. There are a lot of unique traveling sections in the overworld. The puzzles are infrequent enough to be satisfying. Interesting ability-learning system that makes being overpowered possible but impossible without intentionally trying to be. Good It‘s just gameplay Mehh Starring at walls is better Just don‘t Audio Incredible - A 100+ piece master work from the famed Nobuo Uematsu. Very good Good Not too bad Bad Awful Audience Kids Teens Adults Difficulity Just press ‚A Easy Significant brain usage Easy to learn / Hard to master - There are difficult parts, especially without grinding. Healing/MP management can be a problem over long stretches. I was borderline on moving this up to "difficult". Difficult Soulsesque Grind Nothing to grind Only if u care about leaderboards/ranks Isnt necessary to progress Average grind level - If there was an intermediate level between this and the next, I would. Definitely need to grind at several parts, but this is Final Fantasy so it is not surprising. Too much grind You‘ll need a second life for grinding Story Story? Text or Audio floating around Average Good Lovely It‘ll replace your life - This was an ambitious story. Viewpoints/narrators frequently shift. Many themes are explored at once. Comedy, tragedy, romance, action, adventure, whatever you would want is here. Many characters play substantial parts. They nailed it. The magic is here. Perhaps not the best story ever told, but an overwhelming success. Game Time Long enough for a cup of coffee Short Average Long - Finished in 55 hours in a leisurely but not completionist first playthrough. To infinity and beyond Bugs Never heard of Minor bugs -- Some battles don't load randomly in this port. Probably a problem with Steam. Can get annoying ARK: Survival Evolved The game itself is a big terrarium for bugs
